It is the highest mountain in the Cordillera Blanca and the most desired summit by mountaineers; the difference in level that must be overcome from the last town to the summit is almost 4000 meters and therefore requires good training and good acclimatization.
In 1908, the American Annie Peck, both of her Swiss guides of hers R. Taugwalder, G. Zumtaugwald; and in 1932 Philipp Borchers, Wilhelm Bernard, Erwin Hein, Hermann Hoerlin, Erwin Schneider, Néstor Montes and Faustino Rojo ascended to the South summit.
